Dear Citizens of Lexington County:
I’m not running for the title or accolades of the Office of Sheriff, I am seeking the office to be a servant to ALL citizens of Lexington County and make the Sheriff’s Department, YOUR Sheriff’s Department. Elected officials and county employees work for and are employed by the citizens they serve. Under my leadership, YOUR Sheriff’s Department will show professionalism and concern for all citizens in the performance of their duties. As Sheriff, I will:
Work to improve our neighborhoods and communities by enhancing the services provided to the entire county.
Implement training and lead by example to improve the character, integrity and morale of the Sheriff’s Department and
Address the causes of crime, work to reduce the issues that contribute to crime and strive to solve crimes that are committed.
As Sheriff, my first responsibility will be to surround myself with a management team that has people skills and is dedicated to serving the citizens of Lexington County. We will lead by example, showing character, ethics and integrity. We will identify departmental, supervisory and individual employee skills and resources; and utilize these to improve services, decrease incident response times and cut wastefulness; always striving for equal services to all areas of the county.
We will meet regularly with staff members and request their input on improving the Sheriff’s Department. The entire staff will be included in a strategic plan to improve the quality of services to the citizens because input keeps a leader informed and makes him a better leader.
Through daily contact with employees, I will set a positive role model and ensure that the Sheriff’s Department is serving Lexington County to the best of its ability; because action speaks louder than words. Our first priority will be deputies on the street, not behind a desk.
I know each of you work hard and want your tax dollars spent properly. Under my direction, Your Sheriff’s Department will ensure accountability of tax dollars and resources and ensure that they are used effectively and efficiently. I will work with County Council, other county offices and outside agencies to ensure proper and effective communications, and joint efforts to enforce laws in the most cost effective way possible.
As Sheriff, I will not allow the Deputies and staff to work on my campaign or to contribute money to my campaign; the entire staff’s job is to focus on serving the citizens and maintaining order in the county.
I’ll do my part and ensure YOUR Deputies do their part to improve our communities; but I will be asking each of you to do your part and work together with the Sheriff’s Department to help ensure the safety and security of our communities. Through building community partnerships, we can instill trust between the citizen and law enforcement.
Crime tends to exist in communities where fear, intimidation, distrust and apathy exist. Too often law enforcement officers feel they don’t have support from citizen and that they are often over criticized. More importantly, citizens feel they lack proper law enforcement protection and are often harassed by officers. At times, citizens are more trusting or comfortable with the criminals in their communities than law enforcement officers patrolling their streets; let's work together because,
We need to give Lexington County back to her Citizens.
The door to the Sheriff’s Office will always be open to citizens and staff. Citizens will have personal access to the Sheriff and have input on ideas and programs to improve Lexington County; this is YOUR SHERIFF's DEPARTMENT.
